Fruit Smoothies
Is it a drink? Is it a meal? It’s both! It’s a smoothie. A refreshing one, might I add, that isn’t too sweet and is so filling. Smoothies are the easiest things to make, and they’re the perfect breakfast. Forget Jamba Juice (although, I love their oatmeal. go ahead and get that). All you need to make a smoothie is fruit (fresh or frozen) and yogurt/milk. Then add whatever your heart desires. Add oats if you want. It’ll be one satisfying breakfast drink, that’s for sure. You’re gonna need a blender. Sorry, there’s really no way around that. Please get yourself a $15 blender. I have about 3 at home.
The versatile ratio for one serving of smoothie is as follows:
1 whole banana (frozen or fresh)
1 cup fruit (frozen or fresh)
½ cup yogurt
½ cup milk
¼ cup fruit juice
3 tablespoons uncooked oats
2-3 tablespoons honey (optional)
2 tablespoons peanut butter (optional)
For non-dairy smoothies, substitute 1 cup rice, almond, or soy milk for the milk and yogurt. As for the frozen bananas, it’s a million times easier to just freeze peeled bananas individually for use. If you have frozen unpeeled bananas, don’t fear the peel. Place the frozen unpeeled banana in a bowl of hot tap water for a minute. That should soften the peel enough for you to remove it and discard immediately.

Check it out, you need these ingredients:
Grab some fresh fruit.. oats.. yogurt..milk…sweetener(agave syrup)…and fresh orange juice (really, it’s just a whole orange that I smushed up. I love pulp)
Throw a peeled banana in the blender.
Add some fruit, like strawberries. You can use blueberries, raspberries, peaches. Anything goes.
Add some whole milk. If you’re being healthful, I suppose you can add heavy cream? Or non-fat milk. Your choice. Any milk goes, and that includes soy, rice, or almond, too.
Add some orange juice… or, if you’re like me, crush a whole peeled orange and throw it in there!
Add a healthy amount of yogurt. It makes for a creamy and wholesome smoothie.
You don’t want to forget the lid.
Give it a whiz.
Let it whir.
Pour it in a cup, and serve it up! Pronto.
Enjoy the taste of a summery morning with the slight crunch of oats.
