Homemade Chocolate Milk

DSC0281-678x1024

Yeah… I went there. I made homemade chocolate milk. Real homemade chocolate milk…meaning it’s made from scratch rather than from a squeeze bottle of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. You’ll never have to buy chocolate milk syrup/powder again.

It’s quite simple to prepare your own chocolate milk. Of course you need cocoa powder, sugar, and milk. It’s pretty easy from there. You have to try this, just to prove to yourself that you don’t need to buy things pre-made. This is as easy as boiling a pot of water.

You can either use a microwave to make this, or if you don’t have a microwave, go ahead and use boiling hot water instead.

Here’s what you need:

Unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar, water, salt, and milk. That’s all she wrote in the ingredients list.

Now add the cocoa powder to a nice tall clean glass.

Add some water to the glass.

Then the sugar.

And some salt. It draws out the flavors of all the ingredients. Plus, didn’t you see that Modern Family episode where Manny puts salt in his chocolate milk? It’s necessary.

Use a fork to mix it all up.

Mix it well, please.

Mix til it looks like melted chocolate.

Now microwave on high for 25 seconds to combine the cocoa powder with the water and dissolve the sugar.

A chocolate explosion

It really does look like melted chocolate. You could transfer this to a new glass, but let’s not make any more dishes dirty. The glass isn’t too warm.

While whisking with a fork, add the cold milk in to form the chocolate milk. If you have vanilla extract, you can go ahead and add 1/4 teaspoon here.

Keep going..

Add enough milk to just about reach the top. Get all that chocolatey goodness on the bottom!
