This single serving microwave hot chocolate recipe has three ingredients and a pinch of salt… and it’s ready in a pinch. 😉 You read that right: 3 ingredients, 1 minute, and you’re finished. Seriously! This is the perfect hot cocoa for one. Sometimes Swiss Miss just doesn’t hit the spot and you want to make hot chocolate from scratch… so make this delicious concoction whenever you’re craving a steaming cup of hot cocoa.
This recipe is neither too sweet nor too chocolatety, so adjust the recipe as you see fit. The pinch of salt brings out the flavors of the cocoa and rounds everything out. If you’re feeling minty, add a few drops of peppermint extract. Don’t forget to top the hot cocoa with many dollops of whipped cream!
Here’s what you need:
Whole milk (please, don’t use skim. It’s just not the same!), unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and just a pinch of salt (1/16 teaspoon, to be exact).
Add the milk to a large microwave-safe mug. Make sure the mug is large enough so that the milk won’t boil over and make a mess in your microwave. Microwave on high for about 1 minute until the milk is hot. Heat for longer, if necessary.
Add in the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt, and whisk whisk whisk away.
Use a fork and work it. Whisk that milk…
Whisk it until it’s nice and frothy and everything is totally dissolved.
I love that layer of frothy milk on top.
